Stargazer Dance Co.

Our award-winning dance team

Thirty years ago, Willa Dean and Kim Nielsen formed a dance company to complement and showcase the success of Nielsen School of Dance. Known as the Stargazer Dance Co., the team was formed to assist dancers who want to take their ability to the next level by performing and competing. The dancers not only learn to work as a team and develop lifelong friendships, they also represent our studio and the city of Twin Falls.

Success of Stargazer Dance Co.

The Stargazers have grown to be one of the strongest national teams around. They have won countless regional and national awards including being named Hoctor's national dance team champions 5 times, including overall USA Dance Champions in 2000.

The benefits of learning through performance

A significant part of dance training includes learning through performance. While performance opportunities can help prepare some students for a possible career in dance, they can also contribute to children’s success in non-dance activities. The rehearsal process is an excellent learning experience as well. It helps children to develop retention skills, and by working with their classmates on a group performance, they learn the satisfaction of working as part of a team to achieve the best results.

Prerequisites for Stargazers members

The Stargazers dancers usually begin at around 6 or 7 years old. Dancers are required to have taken two years of tap, jazz, modern/ballet and must demonstrate the ability to learn quickly. The dancer then attends a placement clinic where they will be judged on their technique, personality and ability to learn new routines in a short period of time. If a student lacks technique or has not taken all three disciplines, it may be necessary to take an additional year of preparatory class to develop the necessary skills.
